How Couple were Murdered Days After Returning from Abroad

Tragedy struck in Entebbe, Uganda, as a couple recently returned from Switzerland after more than three decades was brutally murdered at their retirement home.

David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife, Deborah Mutaaga-Nabeeta, 62, were found dead on the night of Sunday, July 6, 2025, in their residence located in Lugongo, Nakiwogo Cell, Kiwafu Ward, Division ‘A’, Entebbe Municipality.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, officers from the Entebbe Police Station responded to an emergency call and discovered the couple’s bodies, each with multiple stab wounds.

“The victims were discovered inside their home with deep stab injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest the attackers used sharp objects and may have entered the home with the intent to rob,” SSP Onyango stated in a press release on Monday.

David’s body was discovered near the gate, while Deborah was found in the bedroom. Evidence at the scene indicated there may have been a struggle, with signs suggesting David confronted the assailant before collapsing outside.

Reports also indicate that Deborah managed to make a distress call while wounded, informing someone about the ongoing attack before succumbing to her injuries.

Notably, there were no signs of forced entry. The house, surrounded by a perimeter wall and monitored by untouched security cameras, had a remote-controlled gate and intact doors. Police suspect the attacker either had access to the keys or was already inside the premises.

Earlier that day, the couple had hosted visitors and employed two casual workers to assist with preparations. Both workers had reportedly left by evening.

Police have since taken statements from several individuals, including the informant Ronald Golooba, family acquaintances, housemaid Daphine Naudo—who discovered the bodies—and neighbors who reported unusual activity during the night.

Crime scene experts have collected forensic evidence such as fingerprints, blood samples, and other potentially relevant items. The bodies have been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area, tracking the couple’s final movements, and conducting further interviews to identify potential suspects.

While no arrests have been made, SSP Onyango confirmed that law enforcement is actively pursuing all leads and has urged anyone with information to come forward.
