Hospital worker kills self in Ogun

A staff member who works at the Audit Department of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oluwaseun Adeniji, has reportedly died after jumping into a well around Obantoko, Abeokuta.

Adeniji was said to have committed the tragic act shortly after dinner on Sunday.

Though the reason for the deceased’s decision to kill himself cannot be ascertained, a source said that the senior staff member had allegedly been battling mental health challenges and had previously undergone treatment

The hospital’s Head of Public Relations Department, Dr Segun Orisajo, confirmed that Adeniji died under a questionable circumstance.

Orisajo said that the news of the demise of Adeniji was shocking to the hospital community.

He said, “The sudden death of Mr Adeniji Oluwaseun under a questionable circumstance was a painful loss to the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

“He was a dedicated, loyal and hardworking staff. I must stress that his death was a shock to the hospital community because there were no obvious signs that we were going to miss him so soon because he was at work almost the whole of last week.

“The Medical Director, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu, has extended his heartfelt condolences to his family, his department and the hospital at large. May the good Lord console his family at this trying period.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, was, however, yet to react to the enquiries sent to her WhatsApp as of the time of filling this report.
