Residents and motorists in various parts of Lagos and Ogun states were stranded on Sunday due to heavy rain, leading to major roads being flooded.

Reporters from Valid View Network observed significant flooding in Agege, Akowonjo, and Egbeda areas of Lagos, as well as Mayegun junction on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Akute, Lotto, Pakuro, and Ijere in Ogun State.

Motorists and residents faced hours of delay and difficulty navigating through the flooded streets.

In Agege, the Mobil area was completely submerged, blocking passage for drivers. Similarly, flooding affected sections of the Egbeda-Ikotun road, particularly at Baba Oba and Car Wash ends, causing traffic congestion as vehicles moved slowly through flooded areas.

The situation was also challenging in Akowonjo, where flooded roads slowed down traffic movement.

Grace Ayinde, a commuter, mentioned that economic activities suffered due to flooding, with water even entering shops, discouraging customers from visiting businesses in affected areas.

Tayo, another commuter, highlighted ongoing drainage construction that remains incomplete, predicting more severe flooding in the coming weeks.

Similar experiences were reported in Lotto, Pakuro, Ijere, and surrounding communities, with residents blaming poor drainage systems and urging local authorities to address the issue promptly.

Mrs. Ogechi, a resident, described how the entire area became flooded after attending church, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention to resolve the recurring flooding problem.

Hammed Lamidi, a business owner, anticipated disruptions to traffic and business operations on Monday due to the flood’s impact.

Responding to the situation, an anonymous source from the Ogun State Ministry of Environment mentioned a feedback mechanism for residents to report flooding incidents, assuring that the government would address such issues upon notification.

Overall, the widespread flooding underscored the challenges faced by residents and commuters during the rainy season, emphasizing the urgent need for effective drainage systems and government intervention to mitigate flooding impacts.
