A 40-year-old mother from Cardiff and her unborn baby girl have died tragically following medical complications in Nigeria, prompting an urgent fundraising effort by her family to bring them home to south Wales.
Claire Chadwick, described by her loved ones as a “funny,” “strong-minded,” and vibrant personality, had been living in Nigeria after moving to be with her husband. The couple had built a notable online presence through a TikTok account where they shared glimpses of their lives, faith, and food challenges, gathering thousands of followers.
Tragedy struck when Claire’s unborn baby passed away in the womb at 37 weeks. Following the loss, Claire developed severe medical complications, ultimately dying from septic shock after suffering from sepsis.
Her family is now faced with the devastating logistical and financial challenge of repatriating Claire and her daughter back to south Wales. To assist with these costs, a GoFundMe campaign has been established, raising £10,000 so far.
Her sister, Shannon, shared that the family’s primary goal is to ensure both can be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by those who loved them. Claire leaves behind a 19-year-old son living in Wales, alongside her husband and wider grieving family.
Support is also being provided to the bereaved family by REST, a Welsh charity dedicated to helping relatives navigate the complexities of loved ones dying abroad under sudden circumstances. A Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed that official assistance is being offered to the family.
