A 22-year-old hairstylist in Enugu, Miss Odama Mary Agado, tragically took her own life after discovering her boyfriend was cheating on her. The young woman, originally from Cross River State, reportedly ingested a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper, a type of organophosphate pesticide, following the heartbreaking incident. She had been doing well in her business and had recently bought a car and rented an apartment for her boyfriend.
The devastating moment occurred when she confronted him and saw him with another woman in the very apartment she had rented for him. After the discovery, she called her mother, expressing despair and hinting she would not live again.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, medical efforts could not save her, and she was later buried in her village without customary rites due to her young age.
Her family expressed sorrow and confusion over her decision, with some speculating about spiritual manipulation, though they emphasized that blame would not bring her back. The case highlights the severe consequences of emotional trauma and the dangers of easy access to poisonous substances like sniper in Nigeria.
