Four people have been murdered by gunmen on Nzomiwu Street in the Eziani village of the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The attack was reported to have begun at about 1 a.m. According to reports, the shooters entered the neighborhood on Tuesday and began shooting into the air, killing the four victims—three men and a woman who was reportedly pregnant.
Although the motive for the attack remained unknown, a source in the vicinity claimed that the shooters departed the scene as soon as they had finished killing the victims.
According to the report, the armed men shot randomly as bullets struck the four people.
The bodies of the victims had been brought to the mortuary, according to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a state police spokesman who confirmed the attack in a press release. The victims included three males and one female, according to the police spokesperson. But he did not confirm that the female victim was pregnant.
Ikenga said, “Police/military operations have been intensified in Ihiala and its neighbouring town as operatives responded to a distress call in the early hours of Tuesday on Nzomiwu Street, Eziani, Ihiala, recovered lifeless bodies, three males and one female at the scene.
“Preliminary information revealed that the criminal elements armed with Ak47, started shooting indiscriminately and unprovoked, unfortunately, bullets hit four unarmed civilians. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue.”
He said the remains of the victims have been deposited in a morgue for preservation.
