IDAH, KOGI STATE – Tragedy struck the Oketecheje community in Idah Local Government Area late Thursday night as unidentified gunmen infiltrated a private residence to murder 50-year-old Musa Kimono in the presence of his aged mother and young son.
The victim, who was engaged in a quiet evening conversation with his family, was reportedly ambushed by three armed men who arrived at the scene on motorcycles. According to eyewitness accounts from family members, the attackers showed no mercy despite the desperate pleas of the victim’s mother.
A relative, identified as Ogwuche, recounted the chilling moments of the assault. “They burst in while he was with his mother and son. They didn’t just shoot him; they stabbed him repeatedly. He was left to bleed out right there on the floor,” Ogwuche stated.
Despite the mother’s harrowing cries for help which eventually alerted neighbors, the assailants managed to flee the scene on their motorcycles before any intervention could be staged. By the time help arrived, Kimono had already succumbed to the severity of his injuries and blood loss.
Local authorities in Idah have confirmed the incident, noting that the victim’s remains have been deposited at a local hospital morgue. While a police source confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects, official comments from the Kogi State Police Command remain pending. As of press time, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, has not responded to inquiries regarding the security breach.
The motive behind the targeted killing remains unknown, leaving the Oketecheje community in a state of shock and mourning.
