Graz, Austria – A horrific school shooting at BORG Dreierschuetzengasse high school in Graz, Austria’s second-largest city, has left at least 10 people dead, including the suspected gunman, and 28 injured. The attack, which unfolded around 10:00 AM local time on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, has sent shockwaves across the nation.

Police have confirmed that the suspected perpetrator, identified as a 22-year-old former student who was reportedly bullied, was found dead in a school restroom after turning the weapon on himself. The State Criminal Police Office stated that the assailant allegedly opened fire in two classrooms at the secondary school located on Dreierschuetzengasse.
Graz Mayor Elke Kahr (Communist Party of Austria – KPÖ) described the incident as a “terrible tragedy,” confirming that among the deceased are at least seven students, an adult believed to be a teacher, and the suspected gunman. The Styrian police have declared the situation under control, with “no further danger expected.”
Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker (Austrian People’s Party – ÖVP) condemned the shooting as a “national tragedy that has deeply shaken our entire country.” In a statement posted to X, he expressed profound grief, highlighting that “This incomprehensible act has suddenly torn young people from the lives they still had ahead of them.” He offered condolences to the victims’ families and praised the emergency services for their “prudent” work under difficult circumstances.
Emergency services rapidly responded to the scene, with 158 paramedics and 31 crisis intervention staff deployed. A total of 65 emergency vehicles were called into operation, and two police helicopters were deployed overhead. Images from the scene showed numerous ambulances and armed police in body armor. Injured students are currently receiving treatment at the nearby Helmut List Hall, which has been set up as a temporary emergency care facility.
Authorities initially reported five fatalities, a number that tragically rose to nine, including the gunman, as the situation unfolded. All remaining teachers and students trapped in the building have been evacuated, and a meeting point for parents has been established at the ASKÖ Stadium.
The motive behind the attack is currently under investigation, but initial reports from local media suggest the former pupil may have been a victim of bullying. This incident marks one of the most serious school shootings in Austria’s history.
