Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Governor of Kano State and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately, citing health reasons and the need to focus on his well-being.
Ganduje’s tenure, which began in August 2023, was marked by internal party conflicts and controversy, including allegations of financial impropriety and mounting pressure from party stakeholders, particularly from the North-Central zone. This region has long agitated for the APC chairmanship to return to their zone, a demand that contributed to the tensions leading to Ganduje’s resignation.
Sources reveal that the resignation is also seen as a strategic move by the APC leadership to ease internal divisions and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Ganduje is expected to be succeeded in an acting capacity by one of the party’s national vice chairmen until a substantive chairman is elected at the national convention scheduled for December 2025.
The resignation has sparked reactions on social media and within political circles, reflecting the significant impact of Ganduje’s departure on the APC’s future dynamics.
