FUOYE Refutes Suspension Rumors About Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fasina

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has debunked rumors circulating on social media that its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, was suspended by the university’s Governing Council. In a press statement issued on Monday, April 14, 2025, by Dr. Wole Balogun, Special Adviser on Media Matters to the Vice-Chancellor, the university clarified that the news is false and should be disregarded.

The statement reads:
“The attention of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has been drawn to fake news being circulated on some social media platforms and particularly Sahara Reporters, claiming that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, was suspended today, April 14, 2025, by the Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba-led Governing Council. We categorically state that this is false and should be dismissed by all well-meaning Nigerians and the global community. Sahara Reporters may face legal action for this unjust media practice against Prof. Fasina.”

The university explained that Prof. Fasina had requested permission from the Governing Council to commence his accumulated leave, which was duly granted. The Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, confirmed this in an official statement:
“The Governing Council of FUOYE, at its 7th Emergency Meeting held online on Monday, April 14, 2025, considered the request of the Vice-Chancellor to proceed on his accumulated Annual and Research Leave. The Council approved six months (126 working days) out of his total entitlement of 228 days with effect from Monday, April 14, 2025.”

Furthermore, the Governing Council appointed Prof. Olubunmi S. Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), as Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months during Prof. Fasina’s leave period.

FUOYE emphasized that Prof. Fasina’s tenure has been marked by unprecedented achievements and urged the public to disregard unfounded claims aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
