FUNAAB Quartet Among Beneficiaries of Multi Million Naira Gbemiga Abiodun Educational Support Programme

Four students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) have emerged beneficiaries of the prestigious Gbemiga Abiodun Educational Support Programme, an initiative of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, held in honour of his late son, Gbemiga, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu Remo.

Each FUNAAB student received a cheque of ₦250,000, joining 932 indigent students across Ogun State who collectively benefitted from scholarships worth over ₦252 million during the event, now in its third edition.

The FUNAAB recipients are Emmanuel Balogun, a 100-level Physics student; Olanrewaju Ayomide, a 200-level Data Science student; Zainab Rabiu, a 200-level Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering student; and Ifetayo Osukoya, a 300-level Microbiology student.

The event, coordinated by the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology under the leadership of Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, brought together dignitaries, families, and beneficiaries in a moving celebration of education as a lasting legacy.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, was Prof. Iyabode Kehinde, Programme Coordinator for FUNAAB and the Dean, College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), whose presence underscored the University’s recognition of the programme’s impact on tertiary education in the state.

In his opening address, Reverend Bola Oyeledun, Coordinator of the Foundation, reflected on the initiative’s journey, describing it as a “heartfelt tribute that has transformed lives and expanded access to education for Remo indigenes and beyond.” He noted that since its inception in 2023, the programme has supported nearly a thousand students across different educational levels.

Expounding on the structure of the scheme, Prof. Arigbabu detailed that scholarships were tiered to meet diverse educational needs whereby ₦50,000 was earmarked for primary pupils, ₦100,000 for secondary school students, ₦150,000 for those in technical colleges, and ₦250,000 for tertiary institution students. He described the initiative as “an enduring investment in the state’s future and the seeds of opportunity planted in fertile soil.”

In his emotionally charged keynote, Governor Abiodun reflected on the dual significance of the day, both a memorial of his son’s passing and a celebration of progress in education.
