Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the nascent Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), as FUMMSA’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiola Arogundade, paid a pivotal courtesy visit to FUNAAB, signaling a strengthening of inter-institutional collaboration ahead of the new medical university’s official launch.
Professor Arogundade, leading the FUMMSA delegation, expressed profound gratitude to FUNAAB for its “invaluable support” to date. He specifically highlighted FUNAAB’s crucial role in providing technical guidance, mentorship, and infrastructural advice, commending the established institution’s proactive efforts in laying the essential groundwork for FUMMSA’s successful establishment.
Emphasizing the critical need for sustained collaboration, Professor Arogundade underscored the pivotal role a well-established institution like FUNAAB plays in guiding newly founded universities. He noted that continued mentorship would be instrumental in shaping FUMMSA’s academic and administrative foundations, ensuring a robust start for medical and health sciences education in the region.
Responding to the visit, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, extended a warm welcome to the FUMMSA team. Professor Kehinde assured that FUNAAB would continue to provide comprehensive mentorship and capacity-building support across vital areas, including academic planning, curriculum development, staff training, cutting-edge research initiatives, and strategic infrastructure planning.
Professor Kehinde also highlighted the significant advantage of having two federal universities situated in Abeokuta, emphasizing FUNAAB’s full dedication to seeing FUMMSA flourish in its mandate to advance medicine and medical sciences education across Nigeria.
