…. 9-year-old Primary 6 pupil Emerges Best School Library User
‘Nimbe Adedipe Library of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB) joined its counterparts in the information acquisition, organisation, and dissemination business all over the world to mark the 2024 Annual World Book Day, which took place on Wednesday.

To commemorate the day, the University Librarian (UL), Dr Kehinde Owolabi, accompanied by the Serials Librarian, Dr B. A. Ajiboye visited 3 schools within the geographical location of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
The schools visited are: the Staff School (pre-primary and primary arm) and the International School (FUNIS – the secondary arm), respectively of the FUNAAB, and Moslem College, Isolu (a government-owned secondary school).
The visits which were in line with the mandate of the University was to sensitise the pupils and students of the schools of the importance of books and the myriads of benefits associated with reading and developing a reading culture.
The visit to FUNAAB Staff School served a dual purpose as the University Librarian used the opportunity of the visit to fulfil his promise of giving an award to the Best School Library User of each academic session going forward.

The recipient of the award for the 2022/2023, Master Talhah Abdul-Salam, a 9-year-old Primary 6 pupil was presented with a congratulatory letter, a certificate of award, and a gift of a book by Dr Ajiboye on behalf of the UL to the admiration of his school mates and the teachers.
At FUNIS and Moslem College, the UL met with the Principals and visited the School Libraries. The University Librarian on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde promised to support the two schools in ensuring a conducive library that will help improve or reignite the students’ dwindling interests in reading, ValidViewNetwork reports.
