Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), today, June 10, 2025, gathered to honour Professor Kola Adebayo, the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), in a special Appreciation Meeting. The event, held at the International Scholars’ and Resource Centre (IS&RC), celebrated Prof. Adebayo’s exemplary, selfless, and visionary leadership during his two-year tenure, drawing attendance from top University officials.

Professor Babatunde Kehinde, the Vice-Chancellor, led the tributes, describing Prof. Adebayo as a “dependable and humble administrator” who graciously accepted the DVC role despite not seeking it. “He was simply going about his duties as the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning when I asked him to serve, and he delivered beyond expectations,” Prof. Kehinde remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor further lauded Prof. Adebayo’s unwavering commitment, dubbing him a “utility player” who infused energy and vision into every assignment. Even after concluding his tenure, Prof. Adebayo remains actively engaged, now coordinating the upcoming retreat for the Committee of Deans and Directors (CODAD) members.
Reflecting on their productive collaboration, Prof. Kehinde emphasized the absence of any discord, highlighting Prof. Adebayo’s collaborative spirit and dedication as instrumental in the University’s progress. As a token of appreciation, Prof. Adebayo was presented with a large portrait and other gifts, with recognition also extended to the support of his wife and children.
In his response, Prof. Adebayo expressed profound gratitude for the honour, characterizing his time in office as both fulfilling and impactful. “It has been a great privilege to work with such a fantastic team,” he stated, commending the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership and the consistent support he received.
He conveyed optimism for FUNAAB’s future, noting the significant transformation of the University’s agricultural lands under the current administration. “The seeds sown today will yield visible and lasting fruits,” he confidently asserted, pledging his continued support and revealing his new sustainability-focused assignments aimed at fostering FUNAAB’s ongoing growth.
The appreciation meeting commenced with an opening prayer by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, and concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi. Notable dignitaries present included the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Mufutau Atayese; Bursar’s Representative, Mrs. Margaret Omisope; University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi; and Mr. Moses Ayanda, Director, Executive Affairs of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, among others.
