After two members of his syndicate were apprehended at Onigbedu Forest in the state’s Ewekoro Local Government Area, personnel of the Ogun State Police Command has detained a suspected kidnapper.
In a statement released on Sunday, the state’s police public relations officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, claimed that after the two suspects were taken into custody, the police searched the forest for gang members trying to escape.
He said, “The bush-combing resulted in the capture of Usman Aliyu, one of the evading suspects.”
He stated, “The suspect was apprehended after police officers at the Ewekoro divisional headquarters received information that the suspect had been seen on a commercial motorcycle in the Onigbedu area and traveling toward Papalanto on his way to Lagos.”
“On interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the kidnap gang whose two members were earlier arrested and a victim rescued from them.”
According to Oyeyemi, “he told the police that there were six of them and that once two of them were caught, the others fled into the forest in various directions. But he made the decision to come out and ride a commercial motorcycle away from that area since police officers were persistent in their hunt for them in the jungle.”
“He also admitted that their gang had kidnapped Owolabi Abiodun and Fakorede Kazeem on October 7, 2022, at Kipe village, Idi-Ori, Abeokuta. However, Fakorede Kazeem was slain by the gang because he was unable to run away quickly in the jungle. He claimed that the group had also abducted Adekunle Esther, a 10-year-old, and Adekunle Adebayo.” According to reports given by the police
“He confessed further that on October 19, 2022, the gang kidnapped one Mrs Famurewa at Abule Ijaye Soyooye, Abeokuta, at the entrance of their house after killing her 65-year-old husband, Festus Famurewa, and later released the wife after collecting ransom. All the victims, including the two kids, have come forward to identify the suspects.”
There have been incessant reports of kidnap and murder around the axis and for several period, the Ogun police has been doing all they can to get their hand on the culprits until now.
