
The Federal Government has filed criminal charges against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, over alleged defamatory comments made during a live television appearance, with Godswill Akpabio, Senate President and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello listed as witnesses in the case.
The suit, marked CR/297/25, was filed on May 16, 2025, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan named as the sole defendant.


The Federal Government accuses the Kogi Central lawmaker of making statements “with knowledge or reason to believe” they would damage another person’s reputation an offence under Section 391 of the Penal Code, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990, and punishable under Section 392 of the same law.

Akpabio, Senate President and Yahaya Bello, former Kogi State Governor are among the prosecution witnesses slated to testify during the trial.
