GROVE CITY, Ohio — A local father faces felony charges after authorities say he took the law into his own hands, allegedly luring his 11-year-old daughter’s accused abuser to their home and shooting him.
The sequence of events unspooled on Parliament Drive after the victim’s mother discovered a disturbing video on her daughter’s cell phone. Prosecutors state the footage captured 20-year-old Diego Montoya Gonzalez sexually assaulting the child inside the family’s residence.
The following day, 31-year-old Malik Chandler took matters into his own hands. Investigators revealed that Chandler posed as his daughter on TikTok to trick Montoya Gonzalez into returning to the property. When the suspect arrived, Chandler confronted him and opened fire, striking him twice.
According to court records, Chandler told detectives he originally intended to detain Montoya Gonzalez and notify the police. However, he claimed he fired after believing the suspect was reaching for a firearm. Chandler later surrendered peacefully to law enforcement. He has been charged with felonious assault and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Meanwhile, the legal system has moved aggressively against the initial suspect. A Franklin County grand jury formally indicted Montoya Gonzalez on multiple counts, including two counts of rape, five counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, and one count of obstruction of official business. Investigators searching his devices reportedly uncovered additional illicit media involving child sexual abuse.
Montoya Gonzalez faces a combined bond structure totaling $750,000 across his various charges. As part of his bond conditions, he is strictly barred from contacting the victim or her family and prohibited from internet use outside of employment.
