The father-and-son gunmen who carried out the chilling antisemitic Bondi Beach slaughter of 15 people stayed for a month in a red light district frequented by western sex tourists.
Sajid Akram, 50, and his 24-year-old son Naveed reportedly travelled for a break to the Philippines before carrying out the shocking shooting attack in New South Wales last weekend. They are said to have spent time Davao City, the nation’s second largest city, in the £11-a-night (AU$22) one-star GV Hotel.
The hotel, which is flanked with massage parlours and go-go bars, is located on the island of Mindanao, a seedy sex hub plagued with modern slavery – and a longtime stomping ground for Islamic militant groups like ISIS.
The Daily Mail reports that the two Akrams spent a month in the cramped accommodation, taking a twin room across the road from a local spa advertising a “happy hour” from 10am to 5pm. In a bizarre coincidence, the hotel was just down the street from Bondi & Bourke, a cocktail bar and restaurant.
Davao City has long been plagued by Muslim insurgents, who are searching to carve out an Islamic state in the area independent from the Philippines’ majority Catholic government.
