
Some notable families in the Abeokuta metropolis have decried the continuous attacks of community angry mobs who have continued to attack their residents in search of some of their family, members who were linked to alleged same sex relationships which is in contravention to the same sex act 2014 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It was reported that some members of local vigilante group had stormed the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bolaji and Omolara Togunwa in the Oke Mosan area of Abeokuta the state capital on the 7th of June, 2024 in search of Mrs. Omolara Serah Togunwa who was alleged to have been involved in a same sex marriage with one Zainab Adedoja Adeyemi who is currently alleged to have been on the run from the police who have lunched manhunt for her.
Similarly, one Alhaji Alimi Shoetan also lamented the unwarranted incessant attacks on his residence by some local vigilante group in his Ogun Radio – Adehun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He claimed that the local vigilantes are in search of one of his daughters who was sometimes accused of having an affair with a fellow lady by a relatives of the lady whom he claimed is now deceased.
He said the local vigilantes have caused him so much embarrassment by their unwarranted visits since the girl in question; Memunat Labake Shoetan does not live with him again.
He further decried that the residents of his community have severed relationships with him over the embarrassment caused by the vigilante group.
Another resident of Abeokuta; Pastor Olatunji has also decried the increasing spate of how young ladies get involved with one another over the flimsy excuses of facing disappointments from their male lovers.
He said the immoral act has caused families and relatives of those involved severe pains and has left them scampering for safety because of the uncertainty of the jungle Justice that could be passed on them by the angry mob, he further blamed the social media for grossly corrupting our cultural heritage and taking our youths away from our traditions.
In another development, an educationist; Dr. Wasiu Fabunmi lamented the sporadic increase in the way Nigerian youths are involved in the same sex relationship.
He emphasized that in all his years as an educationist, it has never been this bad as he charges the lawmakers to propose a more severe punishment for whomever is caught in the dastardly act to discourage our generations yet unborn from such acts.
He also advises parents to practically supervise their children’s access to the internet as most of these barbaric acts are being copied from the western world.
