Eleven Killed in Brutal Township House Party Shooting

​DURBAN — Law enforcement agencies have launched an intensive manhunt following a devastating mass shooting that claimed the lives of at least eleven individuals, including an expected mother, at a residential gathering in the KwaMakhutha township, located roughly 30 kilometers south of Durban on South Africa’s east coast.

​According to preliminary reports released by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the horrific incident unfolded on Tuesday night as a group of fourteen people—comprising thirteen men and one woman—socialized inside a local residence. Eyewitness accounts and local media reports indicate that three armed assailants stormed the property, allegedly forcing the occupants into a single room before opening indiscriminate fire. In an act of secondary destruction, the attackers also set fire to a vehicle belonging to one of the victims before fleeing the scene.

​Ten victims, among them the pregnant woman, succumbed to their injuries instantly at the location. Four others sustained severe gunshot wounds and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment, where one additional victim later died, bringing the death toll to eleven. Three survivors remain hospitalized with varying injuries.

However, police officials disclosed that certain individuals present at the gathering were flagged on crime intelligence radars in connection with ongoing investigations into local criminal enterprises.
