The Management of Ekiti State University (EKSU) has suspended all academic activities in the institution for two weeks.

This suspension followed an early morning protest on Tuesday by students of the institution over a N5,000 late registration levy imposed on them by the institution.

The angry students in their resolve to make their frustration known to the University Management had converged and shut the University gate preventing both lecturers and students from gaining entry into the campus.

The angry students also barricaded all roads leading to the university while chanting solidarity songs. The students frowned at the imposition of the late registration fees despite hike in their school fees even as they have just few weeks to their examination.

In a statement by EKSU Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, the Vice Chancellor has directed all students to vacate the campus immediately, warning that any student found wandering around the university campus will be taking a risk.

According to Olofinmuagun , the decision was sanctioned by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, and that it takes effect from today.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun, on behalf of the university Senate, has approved the suspension of academic activities on campus for two (2) weeks with effect from today, 11th April,” he stated.

“Arising from the above, all students of the university are ordered to vacate the campus premises immediately and should not be seen within the campus premises for the next two weeks.”
