As reconstruction and rehabilitation intensify across Ekiti State’s major highways, the Ekiti State Government has issued a travel advisory for all visitors and motorists heading into the state capital, Ado-Ekiti. According to the advisory, travelers are urged to use designated alternative routes due to extensive road works on several popular access roads—a situation impacting routes from Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, and Abuja.

Authorities emphasize that these diversions are temporary but vital to ensuring a smoother, safer, and less stressful travel experience while road infrastructure gets a much-needed facelift. Both Federal and State Governments have committed significant resources and manpower to accelerate the upgrade of the state’s transport network.
New Recommended Routes to Ado-Ekiti
- Travelers from Lagos/Ibadan:
Iwaraja → Efon → Ipole → Ikogosi → Erijinyan → Ilawe → Ado-Ekiti - Travelers from Akure:
Akure → Igbara-Oke → Igbara-Odo → Ilawe → Ado-Ekiti - Travelers from Abuja:
Kabba → Irun-Akoko → Iro-Ekiti → Isinbode → Ikole → Igbemo → Ekiti Ring Road → Ado-Ekiti
Government officials, speaking via official channels and radio broadcasts in recent days, assured residents and visitors that these alternative routes were carefully mapped out to ease travel discomfort during this critical construction phase. “This initiative is designed to make your journey into Ado Ekiti smoother and stress-free as both the Federal and State governments intensify road works across key networks,” the statement reads.

Project Highlights and Community Impact
The Oyebanji administration has reportedly prioritized road network expansion and rehabilitation since taking office in October 2022. Over 16 major road projects have already begun, with more on the horizon—including repairs in the Ado Ekiti metropolis and several rural connections. More than ₦2.7billion has been allocated for rehabilitation efforts in the capital, aiming to reduce traffic congestion, boost commerce, and improve security and the quality of life for property owners and residents along affected routes. Some of these projects, such as the Ado-Ijan road, are scheduled for completion within the next twelve months.
Officials urge patience among travelers and residents during this period, reminding everyone that the long-term effect will be vastly improved transport links, safer roads, and heightened economic activity. The public is encouraged to cooperate and make use of these alternative roads for a better commuting experience.
For real-time updates and additional information, travelers are advised to follow the Ekiti State Government’s official channels and stay tuned to travel advisories as construction progresses.
