An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has handed down a verdict of death by hanging to a 28-year-old man, Ayodeji Alomoge, for the murder of another man whom he accused of having an affair with his wife.
Alomoge stood trial on a count charge of murder, alleged to have committed the act on June 21, 2022, in Ikere Ekiti, as stated in the charge.
The court found him guilty of the offense, as per Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The father of the deceased, Ige Ogunleye, testified that he received a call informing him that his son had been severely beaten by Alomoge and his associates.
Upon reaching the scene, he found his son in critical condition, surrounded by a pool of blood and suffering from severe head and mouth injuries. Alomoge admitted to the act, citing his belief that the deceased had been involved with his wife.

The prosecution, led by Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, presented five witnesses and submitted various pieces of evidence, including the defendant’s statements, pictures of the deceased, and a medical report detailing the cause of death.
In his defense, represented by lawyer Adeyinka Opaleke, Alomoge pleaded for leniency, although he did not present any witnesses.
In delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Jubril Aladejana remarked that disputes over romantic relationships should not serve as grounds for justifying murder unless the situation involves sudden provocation leading to a heated passion.
Consequently, Alomoge was found guilty as charged, with the court ruling that he “shall be hanged by his neck until he be dead.”
