Missing for Eight Days: Conflicting Leads Deepen Mystery Around Ogun Teenager

For eight days, the Ilesanmi family has followed phone calls, sightings, prayers and rumours. Each new lead has raised hope, only for another question to take its place.

For eight days, the Ilesanmi family has been caught between hope and fear. Every phone call could bring an answer. Every reported sighting could point them towards their missing daughter.

But instead of certainty, the family has encountered conflicting accounts, unverified claims and false leads as they search for Imole Ilesanmi, a teenager who disappeared from her home in Agbado, Ogun State.

Imole reportedly left the family residence at about 3pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026. She has not been confirmed seen by her family since.

The afternoon she disappeared

According to her father, Imole was at home that Sunday afternoon when he asked her to prepare food for him. The family later learnt that she allegedly planned to head towards Popóshóla after cooking.

She had reportedly also mentioned meeting an Alfa, although the circumstances surrounding that planned movement remain unclear.

When Imole failed to return, concern quickly turned to alarm. Her relatives began calling her mobile phone. The number reportedly remained active and rang repeatedly from Sunday into Monday morning, but nobody answered.

For a family waiting for a teenager to return home, the unanswered calls became an early indication that something was wrong.

Friends and acquaintances subsequently provided information suggesting that Imole might have been heading towards Popóshóla.

The family then reported her disappearance at the Agbado Police Station.

The cleric at the centre of one lead

During the early stages of the investigation, attention turned to a cleric popularly known as Alfa. Imole’s father said the man was arrested and for a period before being released.

According to the family, some people directed them towards the area where the cleric lived, while residents allegedly claimed they had seen Imole around the neighbourhood.

But the cleric denied seeing the teenager on the day she disappeared. He acknowledged that Imole had visited his residence previously, but maintained that she did not come there on the Sunday in question.

He also said Imole had reportedly told people that she was going to Popóshóla rather than visiting him, and that one of her friends gave a similar account.

Alfa further denied reports that Imole was seen around his residence on Monday. He said police detained him for a day and that an officer remained with him at his residence throughout Sunday.

According to him, the same officer later accompanied him to the police station and could confirm that Imole was not in the house.

He reportedly offered to provide the officer’s contact details so that the claim could be independently verified.

These accounts remain part of the conflicting information surrounding the disappearance and should not be treated as evidence of wrongdoing by the cleric.

A disturbing sighting

While the family continued following different leads, Imole’s sister, Ayomide Ilesanmi, said another potentially important account emerged.

A neighbour reportedly told the family that she had seen Imole walking around repeatedly and appearing disturbed.

The neighbour allegedly encouraged the teenager to sit down and rest. But there was no confirmed contact with Imole afterwards.

For the family, that reported encounter has become another unanswered question.

What was troubling her? Where was she going?And why did she not return home?

The Popóshóla trail

Another lead pointed towards Popóshóla. The family received information that Imole had gone in that direction and had stopped at the residence of a friend.

Believing that she might simply have gone out and would soon return, relatives waited.

But the expected return never came. Hours became days. Days became a week.

And the family was still without a confirmed sighting.

Prayers, social media and false alarms

As the search stretched on, the family turned to every avenue available to them. They sought spiritual support from churches and a mosque, praying for Imole’s safe return.

They also took the search to social media, circulating her photographs and personal information in the hope that someone who had seen her would recognise her and provide a credible lead.

But the online campaign brought its own problems. The family said they received several messages containing claims about Imole’s whereabouts.

Some were deeply disturbing.

Among them were unverified claims that a body or other evidence connected to the teenager had allegedly been found.

The family reportedly investigated some of those claims only to discover that they were false.

Instead of providing closure, the misinformation created fresh anguish.

For relatives already living with uncertainty, every false report meant another emotional blow.

Police response

As of the latest report, enquiries directed to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, had reportedly not received a response.

A senior police officer familiar with the matter, however, confirmed that the disappearance had been reported.

The officer, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to discuss the case publicly, declined to disclose further details.

That leaves the family still waiting for answers.

Eight days, no confirmed trail

Eight days after Imole left home, there remains no confirmed public account of what happened to her after that Sunday afternoon.

There is no established explanation for where she went, whom she encountered or where she is now.

The various accounts surrounding the cleric, Popóshóla, the reported sighting and the messages circulating online remain leads or claims unless independently established by investigators.

For the Ilesanmi family, however, the distinction between a lead and an answer is painfully clear. They do not need another rumour. They need to know where Imole is.
