EFCC’s Adamu-Eteh Bows Out at 60

​Lagos wore a celebratory air on Friday, September 4, 2026, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) rolled out the drums to honour Deborah Adamu-Eteh, its retiring Head of Legal and Prosecution at the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2. The event, marking both her diamond jubilee and formal exit from active service, was a vibrant convergence of family, senior officials, and legal minds celebrating a career defined by tenacity and institutional impact.

​Stepping down as a Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE), Adamu-Eteh leaves behind a two-decade footprint that helped shape the commission’s prosecutorial architecture.

​Speaking at the ceremony, the Acting Zonal Director, Assistant Commander Bawa Usman Kaltungo—represented by Head of Investigations Moses Oguzi—praised her stellar institutional contributions. He noted that the Legal and Prosecution Department recorded a remarkable string of landmark convictions under her watch, cementing her reputation as a pillar of the commission’s anti-corruption crusade.

​Tributes from colleagues underscored a career balancing fierce courtroom intellect with uncommon empathy. Caleb Bwala, Head of Medicals for Lagos Zonal Directorates 1 and 2, lauded her unwavering professional discipline, while Orhieoghene Adewunmi spoke warmly of her humane leadership style, which inspired junior officers navigating the high-stakes environment of financial crime litigation.

​Reflecting on her journey, Adamu-Eteh offered a candid glimpse into the turbulent realities of frontline anti-corruption law. Recalling her stints across complex operational terrains—including rigorous high-profile assignments in the South-South and South-East regions—she admitted that the path was fraught with intense pressure, ranging from courtroom battles to direct intimidation by adversarial legal teams and defendants.

​Rather than deterring her, she noted that the systemic challenges only fortified her resolve to uphold the tenets of jurisprudence. “The experiences tested my resilience and strengthened my commitment to justice,” she reflected, while urging active personnel to maintain absolute integrity in the national fight against economic sabotage.

​An indigene of Ogwule-Kaduna in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, born on September 6, 1966, Adamu-Eteh enlisted in the EFCC in 2006. Over a 20-year trajectory, she rose steadily through the ranks, deploying her expertise across critical operational hubs including the commission’s headquarters, as well as the Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, and Lagos zonal offices, before drawing the curtain on a truly meritorious career.
