EFCC to arraign 47 for Internet fraud in Edo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it would arraign no fewer than 47 suspects arrested for alleged involvement in Internet fraud in Benin, Edo State.

The commission disclosed this in a statement on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

According to the antigraft agency, the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence about their activities.

It added that cars, mobile phones, and laptops were recovered from the suspects.

The statement added, “Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, arrested 47 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Benin City, Edo State.

“The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.

“Items recovered from them at the point of arrest included five exotic cars, smartphones and laptop computers.”

EFCC concluded that it would charge the suspects in court upon the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.

“They would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement read.

It was reported on March 26 that the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC arrested 37 suspects in different parts of Kwara State within a week.

A statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said the operation led to the arrest of 15 suspects in the Tanke Oke-Odo area of Ilorin on March 26, 2025, while an earlier raid on March 22 resulted in the arrest of 22 suspects at various locations, including Tanke, Alao Farm Estate, Yidi Road, and Irewolede.
