The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received a significant boost in its anti-graft crusade as Rotary District 9127 pledged its global network to amplify the Commission’s message of integrity. During a strategic visit to the EFCC Academy, Rotarian Ife James Utodio, Secretary of District 9127, lauded the agency as a “national symbol of redemption.”

Utodio emphasized that the EFCC’s mission aligns perfectly with Rotary’s 4-Way Test, a decades-old ethical guide designed to foster transparency in business and personal life. He noted that the partnership aims to domesticate the fight against corruption by targeting grassroots communities and educational institutions.

A Synergy of Ethics and Advocacy
The collaboration is set to focus heavily on preventative measures, which EFCC’s Acting Commandant, ACE 1 Joseph Ogwiji, identified as a core mandate of the Commission.
Key initiatives discussed during the visit include:
- Youth Outreach: Organizing essay competitions in secondary schools across Karu to sensitize students on the dangers of financial crimes.
- Cybersecurity Education: Hosting community gatherings where EFCC experts can educate adults and youths on cyber-protection.
- National Identity Awareness: Promoting respect for national symbols, including the EFCC logo, the national flag, and the anthem, particularly ahead of the National Symbols Day on September 30.
Global Reach for Local Impact
With over 1.4 million members worldwide, Rotary provides a massive platform for the EFCC’s advocacy. “The EFCC thrives on integrity and accountability,” stated Ogwiji. “While the Commission looks at the national picture, Rotary’s community-based approach allows us to reach the heart of society.”

This partnership signals a shift toward collective responsibility, moving the anti-corruption fight beyond law enforcement into the realm of civic duty and moral rearmament.
