The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, arraigned Dr. Nekabari Dambere Nathan, a medical doctor based in Port Harcourt, alongside his company, Global Horizons Academy Ltd, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, before Justice P. I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on a one-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and advance fee fraud amounting to N39,157,000.
The charge alleges that between April 8 and December 12, 2023, Dr. Nathan and his company obtained the sum from Justice Toojah Iyieagbu, Managing Director of Riskout Consults, under the pretense of processing visas for clients to Canada, Ireland, and the United States, a claim the EFCC said was false.
Dr. Nathan pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution counsel requested the court to remand him and fix a trial date, while the defense counsel applied for bail on medical grounds to enable him to prepare for trial. Justice Ajoku remanded Dr. Nathan in EFCC custody and adjourned the bail hearing to June 25, 2025, with the trial set to commence on November 27, 2025.
The EFCC investigation revealed that Dr. Nathan falsely represented himself as a professional caregiver trainer and travel agent capable of securing visas and job placements abroad. He allegedly convinced several students enrolled with Riskout Consults to pay him the sum for visa processing and IELTS exam enrollment but failed to deliver on his promises and became unreachable, frustrating efforts to recover the funds.
This case highlights ongoing EFCC efforts to clamp down on fraudulent visa and job placement schemes in Nigeria.
