In a compassionate gesture, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the cybercrime and malicious information charges against Maryam Isah Shehu and Abubakar Shuraim Abdulhamad.
The two young Nigerians were initially arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja, facing allegations of cyberstalking contrary to the Cybercrimes Act. However, EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede intervened, opting to discontinue the case following impassioned appeals and apologies from Shehu’s father alongside well-meaning Nigerians.
While dropping the charges, the anti-graft agency issued a firm warning that it will not tolerate willful attacks on its institutional image across any platform or medium. The leadership reassured the public that the Commission remains firmly committed to discharging its mandate in the best interest of the nation.
