KANO — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stepped up its anti-corruption campaign in the North-West, arraigning Abdulmajid Halifa Nazifi before Justice Musa Karaye of the Kano State High Court. Nazifi is facing prosecution over an alleged criminal misappropriation totaling N34,875,000.00.
According to court filings, the transaction dates back to between September and October 2024. The defendant allegedly received the multi-million naira sum from one Fahad Balarabe Adaji under the guise of procuring “IRS Spaghetti” products manufactured by BUA.
Investigators revealed that the funds were channeled directly—on Nazifi’s explicit instructions—into a First Bank account belonging to one Muazu Abdullahi. However, rather than executing the commercial commodity purchase, Nazifi allegedly converted the entire sum to his personal use.
When the one-count charge was read out in court on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty.
Following the plea, prosecuting counsel Mustapha Maiwada urged the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial and requested that the defendant be remanded in custody.
Justice Karaye granted the prosecution’s application, ordering that Nazifi be remanded in a correctional facility. The case has been adjourned until November 2, 2026, for the substantive hearing to begin.
The anti-graft agency maintains that the offense runs contrary to Section 308 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State of Nigeria and is punishable under Section 309 of the same legal framework.
