The Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazado, and Comrade Henry Ogwudu, Convener of Anambra Civic Pulse, have called for strategic collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to strengthen sensitization campaigns against cybercrime and corruption at the grassroots.
They made the appeal during a courtesy visit on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to the Enugu Acting Zonal Director of EFCC, Assistant Commander ACE1 Aisha Abubakar. Anazado praised the EFCC’s relentless fight against corruption and emphasized the urgent need to raise awareness in Nnewi North to deter youth involvement in internet fraud.
“We have been combating crime even before taking office, and now in government, there is no excuse not to deepen the fight. Cybercrime often leads to worse crimes like kidnapping and ritual killings. We seek EFCC’s support to sensitize the people and protect our youth from this menace,” he said.
Ogwudu highlighted that many parents are unaware of the nature of crimes their children commit, stressing the importance of enlightenment campaigns in villages, schools, and markets to educate the public on corruption’s dangers.
Responding, ACE1 Abubakar welcomed the partnership, emphasizing that combating corruption requires collective effort. She noted the EFCC’s ongoing initiatives, including EFCC Radio and the weekly EFCC Connect program, aimed at public education and encouraging future leaders to embrace integrity.
“My doors are open to support any efforts to make our communities safer. Our establishment empowers us to lead impactful sensitization campaigns,” she said, pledging EFCC’s assistance in the collaboration.

This partnership aims to curb the rising cybercrime trend and promote transparency in Southeast Nigeria’s grassroots communities.
