The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogun State Chapter, has frowned against the state directive stopping philanthropists from supporting educational development in the State.
The Party in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Otunba Femi Soluade said the stoppage is an attempt to kill basic education support in Ogun State and further deepen the rot that already plagues the sector.
In the statement issued and signed on Sunday, ADC said it “received with utter dismay the disparaging internal memo released on September 15th, 2025, by the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), authorizing “approval” before any philanthropic supporter, donor, or humanitarian institution can render assistance to public primary schools in the state.
“This shocking directive is nothing short of an attempt to kill basic education support in Ogun State and further deepen
the rot that already plagues the sector.
“It is important to remind Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration that public
primary education is constitutionally recognized as a universal right of the child, protected under the Universal Basic Education Act, 2004, and further supported by the Child Rights Act, 2003, both of which empower schools and
educational institutions to receive interventions, donations, and contributions from non-governmental bodies, corporate organizations, and individuals.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State, questions the audacity of the outgoing government, describing its actions as a disgraceful subterfuge taken too far.
“We condemned the reckless politicization of governance that has descended into strangulating the potentials of children, the very leaders of tomorrow.
“We want to warn that this form of dirty politics is nothing short of betrayal against the state’s future. We also want to stress that education remains the key to unlocking greatness, eradicating ignorance, and laying the foundation for national progress.
“Drawing from his own formative years shaped by missionaries, philanthropists, and religious benevolence, we questioned whether the governor, himself a teacher’s child, had forgotten such values.
“We bemoaned how pupils in Ogun State now suffer indigenes like carrying desks and chairs on their heads, while
government officials squander public wealth on foreign luxuries, leaving the people in abject poverty.
“Painful sight of children carrying desks and chairs on their heads while government officials squander resources, send their children abroad, and amass wealth, We warned that such callousness will not go unpunished.
“We admonished citizens to reject this failing system and embrace the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a credible alternative that will safeguard their hopes, secure the future of their children, and reawaken Nigeria’s bruised democracy from slumber as this is only such a shift, can democracy in Ogun State be reawakened, like a bruised and sleeping giant rising to reclaim its destiny.
The Party said the directive “is unlawful, counterproductive, and wicked against the future of Ogun children. The ADC Ogun State criticizes this disgraceful memo in its totality.
“The attempt to suffocate community participation, block philanthropic support, and reduce access to learning
materials and infrastructure is tantamount to weaponizing illiteracy and poverty against the people.
“The ADC wishes to alert the good people of Ogun State why Governor Abiodun led administration is jittery because some good citizens and stalwarts had signified their intention in various ways to engage in philanthropic gestures to provide school chairs, tables, note books, text books and renovation of so many dilapidated blocks of classroom abandoned by administration .

“How can a government who was supposed to have declared emergency in education due to criminal negligence of the sector to now shamelessly resort to suppressing the opposition political parties by hindering them from contributing the quota to the development of their father’s land in investing in the future of our children.
ADC then “called on all opposition leaders in Ogun state to rise up and joined hands in condemning this anti -People, retrogress and apartheid regime of Governor Dapo Abiodun against the poor children who were not poor on their own volition because of long neglects of education sector by successive administrations.
“Regrettable, only a twosome National officers of fellow opposition political parties who have permanently relegated
themselves as enabler and political jobbers hobnobbing and still standing with this regime because of their selfish desires instead of speaking truth to power because of their quest for stomach infrastructure.
“We therefore call for the immediate withdrawal of this memo and caution the government of the day to stop playing politics with the future of Ogun children. Basic education must be allowed to strive, breathe, and grow through the support of all stakeholders.
“Anything short of this is a direct sabotage of the next generation, and ADC Ogun State will not stand by in silence while the ruling government destroys the very foundation of tomorrow.
