The Edo State Police Command has confirmed a brutal attack captured in viral videos, showing two young men in distress—one having his hand severed. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident and appealed for calm, warning against spreading unverified information and mob justice.
A young man from Okha community in Benin City, one of the victims, narrated in a TikTok video how he and his brother were attacked by armed men wielding cutlasses while going to buy food. Despite trying to escape, he was struck unconscious, and his right hand was severed. After hiding for hours bleeding, he was rejected by several hospitals before receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where doctors are attempting to reattach his hand.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, ordered an immediate investigation and urged anyone with information to contact the police. The command condemned mob actions and reiterated zero tolerance for jungle justice, emphasizing adherence to law and order. The victim also appealed directly for justice and support from authorities.
