BENIN CITY – The Edo State Police Command has made history by appointing Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem as its inaugural female Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a move approved by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.
Hailing from Akwa Ibom State, the 2022-commissioned officer distinguished herself at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, where she completed a demanding five-year program culminating in a Bachelor’s degree in English Language. Currently pursuing a Master’s in English at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), ASP Ikoedem combines linguistic prowess with operational expertise, positioning her ideally for the role’s demands of clear, public-facing communication.
Her training portfolio underscores her readiness for high-stakes duties. It features specialized courses such as the Combat Operation and Counter-Terrorism Course at the Police Mobile Force Training School in Ende Hills, Nasarawa State; the Citizenship and Leadership Training Course at Shere Hills, Jos; the Forensic Analysis Course on Basic Crime Scene Management in Wudil, Kano; and the Basic Detective Course, also in Wudil.
Before this landmark posting, ASP Ikoedem built a robust career within the command. Her roles included Divisional Traffic Officer at Adesuwa Division, Administrative Officer at Evbuotubu Division, Officer-in-Charge of the Crack Squad at Evbuotubu, and Officer-in-Charge of Confidential matters in the Department of Operations. Most recently, she served as Deputy PPRO to two predecessors, honing skills in media relations and crisis communication—critical amid Edo’s ongoing challenges with cultism, kidnapping, and urban crime, as highlighted in recent command reports.
This appointment aligns with IGP Egbetokun’s broader reforms to promote gender inclusivity and professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force. Sources from Vanguard and Punch Nigeria note it as part of initiatives to diversify leadership, following similar milestones in other states. ASP Ikoedem’s deployment comes at a pivotal time, as Edo Police ramps up operations against insecurity, with recent successes in dismantling criminal networks in Benin City and environs.
