The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) continued its meeting in Kano State, Nigeria, on Tuesday, following notable absences from Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Mali, which withdrew from ECOWAS last year due to sanctions over military takeovers of power.
The ongoing meeting which started on Monday, seeks to tackle various challenges impacting member states, including socio-economic, political, and security issues within the sub-region.

Valid View Network reports that on Monday, discussions in the meeting, mainly revolved around bureau meetings involving the parliament’s leadership, committee chairpersons, and other key officials.
Dr. Barau Jibrin, the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, speaking to media emphasized that Tuesday’s session would engage all parliamentarians and invited guests, constituting a general meeting.
According to him, representatives from Togo, absent from the previous meeting due to elections, were anticipated to participate in the Kano gathering and undergo swearing-in on Thursday.
The meeting’s agenda spans a wide range of topics, encompassing the economy, security, and other challenges encountered by member states.
Jibrin stressed the significance of collectively addressing these issues to foster regional stability and development.
