Dolly Parton has barely been gone a month, but the story surrounding her estate is already beginning to sound less like country music and more like a courtroom drama.
A Tennessee judge has granted a temporary restraining order against Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, after the late singer’s estate accused him of threatening staff and interfering with its business.
The order requires Seaver to stay at least 1,000 feet away from estate employees, lawyers and business partners and bars him from the estate’s private properties.
Seaver had previously served as head of security for Parton’s properties. He was dismissed after her death.
Court filings from the estate allege that he sent increasingly threatening messages and made demands for payment.
The estate also claimed that employees became frightened enough to leave their jobs and that private security had to be hired for staff.
Seaver disputes the characterisation of his messages. He has said some of the communications were private conversations taken out of context and that he remains committed to protecting Parton’s family and legacy.
The legal fight is particularly striking because Seaver was the family member chosen to publicly announce Parton’s death on August 25.
Now, barely weeks later, he has been ordered to stay away from the very estate he once helped protect.
But it should be noted that the restraining order is temporary.
The allegations remain allegations, and a further hearing is scheduled for October 7. Dolly Parton’s music may have been about love, heartbreak and Tennessee roads. Her estate appears to have found a rather different soundtrack. ValidViewNetwork reports.
