Delta State Government has ramped up its healthcare infrastructure by deploying three advanced 1.5-Tesla helium-free MRI machines, three CT scanners, and 25 4D ultrasound units across major public health facilities.
Announcing the initiative, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Festus Ahon, stated that the state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment has been installed at key regional centers, including the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Central Hospital Warri, and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
According to the administration, the massive infrastructural upgrade is designed to curb medical tourism, cutting down the financial and physical strain on residents who previously had to travel outside the state or abroad for specialized medical scans.
To complement the equipment rollout, the government has tackled critical manpower shortages by hiring over 700 healthcare professionals. Governor Oborevwori has also issued a standing directive to immediately replace any doctor or nurse who exits the system to prevent staffing deficits.
To further motivate medical personnel, the state introduced monthly tax-free incentive allowances of N200,000 for doctors and N100,000 for health officers. Additional welfare measures include expanded coverage under the state’s contributory health scheme—which has registered over three million enrollees—alongside free medical care for young children and monthly stipends for registered widows.
