Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has been honoured with the “Outstanding Governor Award” for the North-West region by Daily Times Nigeria at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards held in Abuja.
The governor received the highest number of votes in the category, with the award council recognising his leadership, public service, and contribution to national development.
A Recognition of Leadership
ValidViewNetwork gathered that Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has been honoured with the “Outstanding Governor Award” for the North-West region by Daily Times Nigeria at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards held in Abuja.
The award was presented to the governor on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as part of activities marking the newspaper’s centenary anniversary, a celebration of 100 years since its first publication in 1926.
Highest Number of Votes
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, Lawal was recognised for his “leadership, public service and contribution to national development”.
Bolaji Okusaga, Chairman of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards Council, said Lawal emerged as the recipient after receiving the highest number of nominations in the region.
“Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category,” Okusaga said.
“The Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed your selection in recognition of your leadership, public service and contribution to national development”.
Governor’s Response
In his acceptance, Lawal expressed appreciation to the board, management and organising committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council, and Nigerians who supported his nomination.He said the honour reflected his commitment to promoting good governance and efficient public service in Zamfara.
He dedicated the award to the people of Zamfara State, reaffirming his determination to continue delivering democratic dividends to the citizens.
Other Distinguished Honourees
Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the event included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.
According to the management of Daily Times, recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards will be featured among the outstanding personalities and institutions in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book, a national commemorative volume documenting the people, institutions and achievements that have shaped Nigeria’s development.
President Bola Tinubu wrote the foreword to the book.
