Dangote Group has resumed extensive construction of its new cement plant in Itori, Ogun State, targeting a production capacity of 6 million metric tons annually. Strategically located just 10 kilometers from Lafarge Africa’s Ewekoro plant and near Dangote’s existing Ibese plant, the Itori facility is designed with two clinker production lines capable of producing 12,000 tons per day.
Upon completion, expected by November 2026, the cement plant will feature its own captive power plant to supply electricity for kiln operations and other production needs, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability. The project, estimated at around $800 million, marks a significant expansion for Dangote Cement within Ogun State, which, with the new plant, will reach a cumulative cement production capacity of 18 million tons per annum, positioning the state as the largest cement producer in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The plant’s development aligns with Dangote’s broader vision to bolster local production, reduce imports, and promote Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in cement manufacturing. The construction involves top-tier equipment sourced from leading European suppliers, and the facility will create numerous direct and indirect jobs, fostering economic growth in the Itori region.
Additionally, Dangote Group has announced plans to develop Nigeria’s largest seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State, complementing the cement expansion and enhancing the region’s industrial infrastructure. This project revival was encouraged by the current state’s investor-friendly policies, overcoming previous setbacks under former administrations.

Dangote Cement, Africa’s leading cement producer with a 52 million tons per annum capacity continent-wide, maintains about 70% of its production within Nigeria. The new Itori plant will be the company’s fourth greenfield cement project in Nigeria, joining Obajana, Ibese, and Okpella plants in its portfolio.
This ambitious development not only reinforces Ogun State’s dominance in cement production but also underscores Dangote Group’s commitment to driving industrialization and sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
