Dangote Refines Fuel Distribution: Free Scheme Begins Monday, Cuts Petrol Price to N841/litre

The Dangote Group has announced that its refinery will launch a nationwide free fuel distribution program starting Monday, September 15, 2025. The initiative will first cover Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo states, with plans to extend to additional regions as more logistics resources become available.

In a statement, Dangote spokesperson Anthony Chiejina confirmed the commencement of the scheme, saying it was initially scheduled for August but postponed due to logistical delays in China. Over 1,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks have been received by the refinery, forming the backbone of this initiative aimed at transforming the fuel supply chain in Nigeria.

Consumers in Lagos and the South West will benefit from a reduced petrol retail price of N841 per litre, while those in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta will pay N851 per litre—marking a significant price cut designed to ease the financial burden on motorists and businesses amid persistent fuel supply challenges.

The refinery’s bold logistics strategy includes the large-scale deployment of 10,000 CNG-powered trucks in 2025, highlighting Dangote’s commitment to sustainable, cost-effective fuel distribution solutions. This CNG truck roll-out promises to reduce reliance on diesel trucks, lower distribution costs by approximately 40%, and promote environmental sustainability by cutting carbon emissions.

Despite a recent doubling of CNG prices, the refinery maintains the ramp-up of its green fleet to ensure uninterrupted supply and logistical efficiency across the domestic economy. The initiative also aligns with national economic policies aimed at stabilizing fuel prices, boosting industrial growth, and supporting millions of micro, small, and medium enterprises across Nigeria.
