A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abuja has issued an arrest warrant for Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following his failure to honor a court summons related to allegations of criminal defamation against gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. The summons, issued on March 5, required VDM to appear in court on March 13 to address claims that he made damaging statements on social media accusing Chinwo of misappropriating $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (Eezee Tee).
Chinwo has vehemently denied these allegations, providing documentary evidence to refute them. Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, has filed a N1.1 billion defamation lawsuit against VDM, seeking a public apology, retraction of the statements, and deletion of defamatory posts. The criminal complaint alleges violations of the Penal Code and Cybercrime Act.
This development is part of an ongoing legal battle between Chinwo and her former record label, with both parties involved in separate legal disputes. The arrest order underscores the seriousness with which the court views VDM’s failure to comply with legal proceedings.
