
Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, former Governor of Kwara State and Minister of Communications and Transportation, has passed away at the age of 84. Born on February 24, 1941, Chief Adebayo died in the early hours of June 25, 2025.
A distinguished public servant, Chief Adebayo’s career spanned academia and politics. He was a lecturer at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) before entering politics. During Nigeria’s Second Republic, he served as a Senator and later became Governor of Kwara State. Between 2003 and 2007, he held the federal positions of Minister of Communications and Minister of Transportation.
Known for his integrity and dedication, Chief Adebayo made significant contributions to Nigeria’s public service over several decades.
The family announced his passing with gratitude to God and said further details about funeral arrangements would be shared in due course.
Chief Cornelius Adebayo’s legacy as a committed leader and educator will be remembered by many across Nigeria.
