On Monday, Murja Kunya, a controversial TikToker, was granted bail by a Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu.
The bail was set at N500,000 and required two reliable sureties, one being a relative and the other possessing landed property in Kano municipal.
Murja sought bail following a directive from the Kano Shari’ah Court, which ordered a mental evaluation by a psychiatric doctor.
Justice Saminu underscored the importance of Murja’s release, citing the court’s impending Easter break and her prolonged detention since February 20.
Additionally, the court registry was tasked with verifying the property of the sureties.

As part of the conditions, Murja was restricted from using her social media accounts until the case is resolved, with a warning of re-arrest by the Kano Commissioner of Police for any violation.
Furthermore, the judge mandated the presence of the defendant’s counsel, the Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police at the next hearing to discuss amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board Amended Law for proper adjudication.
The case has been adjourned until May 16, 2024, for further proceedings. Murja’s arrest by the Hisbah Board stemmed from concerns raised about her conduct and postings on Twitter, alleging immorality.
