The Ogbunike community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State has been plunged into mourning following the sudden demise of one of its most revered sons, Comrade Eze-Harris Chuma-Odili, popularly known as “Eze Ogbono.” The prominent media expert, cultural ambassador, and community leader tragically collapsed and died on Saturday, August 23, 2025, during a public function held at the Igwe stool event in Ogbunike.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that Chuma-Odili was in a jovial mood, warmly interacting with guests and preparing to spray money on dancing women when he suddenly slumped backwards. Despite immediate efforts to resuscitate him and rush him to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead later that day.
Chuma-Odili was a well-respected Nollywood veteran, public relations expert, fearless activist, and a passionate culture promoter who had been contesting for the traditional Igwe stool of Ogbunike. Known for his generosity, he frequently sponsored community initiatives, supported youth education, and actively engaged in the development of his town. His sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media and beyond, with many tributes describing him as “a fearless voice,” “a cultural icon,” and “a man with a big heart.”
His family, friends, and associates have expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a dedicated community mobilizer and media advocate who was committed to preserving and promoting Igbo heritage. The Anambra State government, through a statement by the governor’s press secretary, also mourned the death of Dr. Harris Udokamma Chuma-Odili, commending his significant contributions to responsible journalism and media advocacy.
As Ogbunike and the larger Anambra community come to terms with this irreplaceable loss, plans for traditional and funeral arrangements are awaited. The legacy of Comrade Eze-Harris Chuma-Odili, especially his dedication to truth, justice, and cultural pride, will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
