… As Experts Urge Inductees to Bridge the Gap Between Campus, Workplace

By Bolanle Olawepo

The College of Engineering (COLENG), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), today, October 30, 2025, formally inducted the graduating students of the 2024/2025 Academic Session as Graduate Members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. The event, themed “Campus to Workplace: Every Trainee Engineer’s Dream,” marked a defining moment in the professional journey of the young engineers.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, at the ceremony was the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo, who congratulated the inductees on behalf of the University Management. He lauded the College for its unwavering commitment to producing competent Engineers equipped with the knowledge and skills to address real-world challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, charged the inductees to be innovative, visionary, and solution-oriented, stressing that their training at FUNAAB has prepared them not just for today’s problems, but for those yet to emerge. “You have been trained not just to solve today’s problems, but to find solutions to problems that have not yet been created,” he stated. “FUNAAB stands tall as one of the six universities in Nigeria fully powered by solar energy. You have learned in a live renewable energy environment, use that privilege to your advantage.”

He appreciated the staff for their tireless dedication to nurturing some of the nation’s brightest minds, assuring them that their efforts would continue to yield great rewards.

Delivering the Keynote Lecture, Engr. Osinachukwu Nwosu, Site Plant Manager at Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, spoke extensively on the theme, underscoring the importance of adaptability, teamwork, humility, and continuous learning in navigating the transition from academia to the professional world.

“In the classroom, problems are well-defined and data is clear,” he noted. “But in the real world, challenges are often messy, data is incomplete, and priorities often conflict. That’s where true Engineering begins, where logic meets uncertainty, and creativity meets constraints.”

Sharing insights from his professional journey, Engr. Nwosu advised the new Engineers to prioritise competence over credentials, stay curious, and continuously improve themselves while earning the trust and respect of their teams.

Earlier in his Opening Remarks, the Dean, COLENG, Engr. (Prof.) Adebayo Badejo, congratulated the inductees, charging them to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism. He emphasised that the induction was not merely a ceremony, but a call to responsibility and lifelong excellence.

The valedictory speech was delivered by Omoniyi Damilola, President of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA), FUNAAB Chapter, who reflected on the shared experiences and aspirations of the Graduating Class.

Highpoint was the presentation of awards and prizes to deserving students, like Makinde Oluwatobi of the Department of Mechanical Engineering who emerged as the Best Graduating Student in the College with a CGPA of 4.78, while Adesanya Rhoda Arinade of the Department of Agricultural and Bio-Resources Engineering received the award for Best Graduating Female Student.

Departmental and special recognition awards were also presented to other outstanding students for their academic excellence and contributions to the growth of the College.
