The Nigerian nation mourns the passing of one of its finest sons, Dr. Christopher Kolade, who died peacefully on October 8, 2025, aged 93. Known fondly by loved ones as “Daddy CK,” Dr. Kolade embodied integrity, discipline, wisdom, and relentless service throughout a remarkable multi-faceted career as a broadcaster, corporate leader, educator, and diplomat.

Born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Dr. Kolade’s journey from a colonial-era education officer to Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom was marked by principled leadership and an unblemished public service record. As an enduring father figure, mentor, and moral compass, he stood firmly against corruption, even resigning from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) board when faced with transparency challenges, demonstrating his uncompromising ethics
.

The late diplomat’s influence extended deeply into business and academia. As Managing Director and later Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, he was a pioneer of meritocracy and fairness decades before corporate governance became a mainstream concern. His teachings on leadership, ethics, and corporate governance at Lagos Business School and Pan-Atlantic University inspired many generations of Nigerian leaders and students.

Dr. Kolade’s legacy includes founding the Christopher Kolade Centre for Research in Leadership and Ethics (CKCRLE), dedicated to fostering ethical leadership and integrity across Nigeria and Africa. His philanthropic work through the Christopher Kolade Foundation notably supported education, leadership development, and sickle cell advocacy, underscoring his commitment to societal betterment.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a tribute, described Dr. Kolade as “one of Nigeria’s intellectual treasures,” praising his “exceptional brilliance, statesmanship, diligence, and unimpeachable integrity.” The President recalled his distinguished career and humanitarian contributions, urging Nigerians to celebrate a life lived with honour and purpose.

To family, friends, and countless protégés, Daddy CK was much more than a national icon—he was a cherished father figure, a wise counselor during trials, and a beacon of love and support. His legacy of principled service, humility, and patriotism deeply resonates across Nigeria’s social and institutional fabric.
