R&B singer Chris Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court today to enter a plea over charges of causing grievous bodily harm following an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub in February 2023. The 36-year-old American musician, dressed in a dark blue suit, arrived silently amid heavy media presence and will face the court alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, 38, also charged in connection with the incident at the Tape venue in Mayfair’s Hanover Square.
The alleged victim, Abraham Diaw, was reportedly struck multiple times with a bottle at the bar before being pursued to another area of the nightclub where he was punched and kicked repeatedly. Brown was arrested in Manchester on May 15, 2025, after flying into the UK on a private jet for his tour. He was released on conditional bail after paying a £5 million security fee, allowing him to continue his international tour, including a recent performance in Cardiff.
Brown’s case was transferred from Manchester Magistrates’ Court to Southwark Crown Court due to the seriousness of the charges. The trial preparation hearing marks a key step in the legal proceedings against the singer, who faces a significant lawsuit filed by Diaw in 2023, seeking $16 million in damages for the alleged assault.
The court proceedings continue to unfold, with Brown maintaining his innocence as the case moves toward trial.
