During a Senate session on Tuesday, Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, representing Cross-River North under the People’s Democratic Party, caused uproar in the Senate by revealing that ranking senators received N500 million each for projects.
This revelation came during a discussion of Senator Olamilekan Adeola’s motion on the breach of privilege by Senator Ningi.
Senator Ningi had alleged in a media interview that the 2024 Budget was padded to the tune of N3.7 trillion, prompting Senator Adeola to present a motion of privilege regarding the interview.
However, Senator Agom-Jarigbe’s disclosure of the N500 million allocation to ranking senators for projects sparked chaos among the senators, leading to a rowdy session.

He questioned the fairness of the allocation, stating that some “so-called Senior Senators” received the funds while others, like himself, did not, despite being ranking senators.
The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, clarified after the commotion settled that the mentioned N500 million allocations were meant for constituency projects.
