Cameroonian LGBTQ+ activist and media personality Bandy Kiki has announced her marriage to her Nigerian partner, Jenny, who hails from the Ijaw ethnic group in Nigeria. The couple tied the knot in the UK, as revealed by Kiki in a social media post on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, where she stated, “Yesterday, I became Ijaw by marriage.”
Bandy Kiki, who publicly came out as gay in 2017, is a well-known advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, particularly within the African diaspora. She is also the founder of Kinnaka’s Blog, a popular English-speaking news and entertainment platform catering to the Cameroonian community.
The marriage is a significant personal milestone for Kiki and is the main feature in the growing visibility of same-sex unions within African communities living abroad. The Ijaw people, Jenny’s ethnic group, are primarily based in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

While LGBTQ+ rights remain a sensitive and often contentious issue in many African nations, Kiki has been vocal in her efforts to challenge discrimination and promote inclusivity. Her work has garnered attention and sparked conversations about acceptance and equality.
The marriage has been met with celebration and support on social media, reflecting a segment of the global community’s evolving perspectives on same-sex relationships.
