Calm has returned to Abeokuta the Ogun state capital following Tuesday’s demonstration by angry youths protesting naira scarcity and hike in fuel price.
ValidViewNetwork had on Tuesday reported how irate youths attacked some commercial banks in Abeokuta and vandalized some automated teller machines (ATM).
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun had called on the protesters to stop their protest and allow the outcome of his engagement with the Bankers Forum and the Central Bank to yield fruit.
“Civil disobedience will rather exacerbate the anguish in the land. Let us stay away from avoidable loss of lives and properties. Please, let us embrace peace. We are a very peaceful state; we are very orderly and we have spent a lot of time and energy to invest in the peace and security of our people. We must eschew provocation that could lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.
On Wednesday, a day after the protest, soldiers and policemen were seen in strategic places in the city.
Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun on Wednesday visited a victim of Tuesday’s protest simply identified as Michael who was shot during the demonstration in the Sapon area of Abeokuta.
Michael is said to be responding to treatment at the Federal Medical Center, Idi-Aba, ValidViewNetwork reports.
